Language Maps

A useful graphic, not least for the fact that it recognises the differences between Chinese dialects (many of which are not mutually intelligible), between total speaker population and international language distribution, and between language-learner populations.

What isn’t covered, and should really be, is that combination of those latter two: English is the dominant world language because it is the most widely-spread *second* language, whereas Chinese, for example, is heavily concentrated in its home country and in enclaves overseas.
